As Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality we closed Abdi İpekçi Street in Şişli district of Istanbul to vehicle traffic on Car-Free Day. Şişli; it is a crowded district full of exclusive hotels, fashion boutiques and shopping malls. In addition, many business centers are located in this district.
European Mobility Week is celebrated every year since 2002, between 16th and 22nd of September to encourage public authorities around the world to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly transport measures, to raise public awareness and to encourage local people to use clean, environmentally friendly transportation methods by giving up their habits.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organized "Car Free Day" march in Kadıköy Bağdat Street to promote more movement as walking, biking etc. and to draw attention to healthy life within the scope of European Mobility Week.
European Mobility Week is an international event which is celebrated every year between 16th and 22nd of September. It is celebrated in order to encourage public authorities to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation measures and to encourage citizens to use green transportation solutions and to create healthier cities.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organized many activities during the European Mobility Week under the leadership of the Transportation Department for the first time this year and pioneered the effective celebration of the week in Istanbul and created awareness. The last events were held on Friday, September 22nd, which is celebrated all over the world as “Car-Free Day”.
In order to draw attention to the fact that smart cities will be made up of individuals who are adopting healthy, clean and green lifestyles and to raise awareness about the week, IMM Transportation Office staff participated in sports events together with citiziens at Hamza Yerlikaya Sports Complex on Friday, September 22.
Bicycle Training was organized in İBB Topkapı Traffic Training Park with the cooperation of Istanbul Bicycle Association on Thursday, September 21, to encourage active use of bicycle by adults in urban transportation and to provide basic information on their use.
The conversation on “Clean, Shared and Intelligent Mobility” organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) within the framework of the European Mobility Week was held on Thursday, September 21, when the Yıldız Technical University Civil Engineering Faculty hosted it.
With the use of Bicycle as a means of transport, the “Cargo Carrying with Bicycle” event has been organized to demonstrate that it can be used for intra-city cargo transport and that the bicycle can be integrated with other public transport vehicles as an environmental transport means.
Within the scope of European Mobility Week events, air quality and noise level was measured on “Fatih Ordu Street” where one of the pedestrianization projects was applied by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to promote green, healty and clean transport solutions.
A “Bicycle Tour” was organized by IMM in cooperation with Istanbul Bicycle Association within the scope of European Mobility Week events on Sunday 17th. Bicycle lovers gathered in front of Istanbul Bicycle Association building at 09:00am at Yenikapı and the group started the tour at 09:30am.
IMM Sports Istanbul’s Bebek Run which is the Special Run of the Fun Run Series, is being held on the Bebek Coast on Sunday, 17th of September at the European Mobility Week.
The race took place in a beautiful atmosphere and an enthusiastic atmosphere.
Within the scope of European Mobility Week activities organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), on September 16th, 2017, “A Technical Trip to A Metro Worksite” was organized with the participation of the Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Civil Engineering Faculty academics and students.
Since its launch in 2002, the effects of the European Mobility Week has continued to steadily increase both in Europe and worldwide. In 2015, 1900 cities in 45 countries joined the European Mobility Week campaign and organized their own activities.
